San Diego, Day Five
Some more beautiful murals from Chicano Park. Benjamin shared with us the stories and histories of Las Adelitas. Las Adelitas fought in the Mexican Revolution for justice. They fought along side their men. Many people in today’s society like to think that women aren’t “strong” enough to fight in wars but La Adelita’s history demonstrates how women of color can do anything! Again, although Alternative Break is primarily a trip to help a community work on their projects we also learn and educate ourselves on histories the academy tends to erase.
